This peaceful village, located only 30 Km. from Merida, contains "The Square of Cultures", a town square which includes prehispanic, colonial and modern constructions.
The Temple of Nuestra Seņora de la Natividad; built in the XVI century, is a superb example of the Franciscan style widely found in this region.Archeological zone of Acanceh:
Located inside the village is composed of two buildings: The Pyramid is located on calle 21 between 18 and 20; It is a 11 meters high building with three terraces, it also has four flights of steps as access and two stucco masks.
The Palace of the Stuccos: Located on Calle 18 between 25 and 27, it is at just 300 meters southeast from the Pyramid.
This building has a beautiful frieze, elaborated in stucco and painted in red . The lower cornice is decorated with astronomical symbols while the upper is composed of a board with two series of step lines in battlements forms, it contains stylized zoomorphic figures in the lower line while polycromed mammals and birds in the upper; This board is polycromed, standing out the blue-turquoise green also known as mayan blue.The Acanceh architecture belongs to the initial classical period (200-600 a.c), its constructions based in very big blocks are similar to those found in Izamal.
The archeological sites are open every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free entrance on Sunday and Holidays.
